Want to get fit but not pay for the gym or a subscription app? You don't need to. Here are three great fitness apps available that don't charge for their fabulous workouts. Be gone "in-app purchases"!

Nike Training Club - Available for free on iOS and Android

Nike can help you set a 4-6 week training plan, with routines you will love, workout in your home, or a gym, whatever works for you and fit it all around your own schedule. From workouts that include yoga, HIIT, Legs, strengthening, even workouts for those in small spaces, they've got everything you could want and best of all it's completely free.

I love this app, I've used it for years and it's only got better over the years. Play your own playlists in the background and watch professional athletes or your fave pop star (Ellie Goulding did some workouts a while back) help you get fit, or lean, or whatever your fitness goal might be. Their plans are fab too, with ones like "Start-Up" A 4 week guided plan for beginners or those maintaining their fitness. With a good mix of workouts, you'll fill out a few questions based on whether you have any equipment, how many workouts you want to do per week and if you want to include running. Then just pick your start date and you're off with a 4-week plan including those all-important recovery days.

Couch to 5K - Available for free on iOS and Android

If you're a couch potato (Like I've been the last few months) this is definitely THE app for you. If you need some motivation, you have 4 coaches to choose from and 9 weeks to get yourself running 30 minutes (5k) nonstop. It's as simple as that. You run 3 times a week, which is really doable (even with a toddler in the mix) Week 1 you begin with a brisk 5-minute walk, then alternate 1 minute of running and 1-and-a-half minutes of walking, for a total of 20 minutes. Sounds too easy? I can tell you its hard work, but amazing when you complete that first week and move into week 2.

I'm on week 7 as I write this and am now running 25 minutes without stopping (I'm even surprising myself). 3 more weeks to go and I'll be able to run a 5k - Amazing. Go on, download it. It's free.

Yoga for Beginners | Mind+Body - Available for free on iOS and Android

I'm a pilates gal if I'm totally honest (I just can't do downward dog!) but there aren't many apps for Pilates so it's great to see a fab Yoga app that's packed with lovely beginner-friendly yoga workouts to get you (and me) started on your yoga journey. Don't expect beautifully made videos here, it is a simple app on that level, but there are tons of workouts to do with lovely illustrations of the poses to follow as well as a timer to show how long to hold each pose for.

For a free app, it is pretty detailed and has lots of poses from Bedtime Yoga for beginners to more advanced poses that target the back and neck.
