A Weekend In Amsterdam

One of my favourite places to zoom off for a relaxing weekend is Amsterdam! Just an hour in the air and you've arrived.

The city has so much to offer and each time I go I find more wonderful cafes to eat lunch, the odd gallery on a daytime walk, and of course gorgeous shops!

EXPLORE

Take a walk down The Nine Streets 'De 9 Straatjes', an absolute must if you want to avoid the touristy shops of Dam square, want boutique style shops and cafes and beautiful views over the canals! I generally avoid Dam square unless i want to peek in Dam's version of Selfridges; de Bijenkorf - the top floor actually is a rather fab lunch spot!

LUNCH

There are so many gorgeous places to walk into on the 9 streets - I have to say one of my favourites is Goodies. Aim for just before or after the lunch rush to get a good table. They serve healthy fresh juices and fantastic open sandwiches. If the weather is lovely, sit outside and people watch whilst you eat too.

If your cycling around Vondelpark, take a coffee or brunch break at Dignita, a delicious brunch venue thats really welcoming and lovely inside.

On my last visit I was taken to a beautiful brunch spot just south of the main city in Oude Pijp, (known as Amsterdam's 'Latin Quarter') Bakers and Roasters. Get there as early as you can - put your name down and either go for a walk or hang and people watch until your table is ready. ITs mega popular so expect to wait at least half an hour for a table but I promise its worth it. Their brunch is pure foodie heaven.

DINNER

If you want a fabulous dinner spot i'd choose Izakaya but it isn't cheap. Expect a beautiful crowd, and its also a great spot for drinks if you want hustle and bustle.

If you want somewhere a bit more relaxed, I love Humphreys for gorgeous surroundings and great food at an even better price. There's 2 of them - one near W hotel and the other closer to the Central station.

NIGHTLIFE

My 4 go to places are W hotel for drinks and fun - take a walk into Mr Porter restaurant for a more lively crowd and a DJ most evenings. 5&33 for quiet start off drinks with an older crowd and plush surroundings - think Tom Dixon lighting and art everywhere.

The cool set go to The Butcher a sleek hidden late night bar behind a door at the back of a rather fabulous burger bar (which make some of the best burgers I've ever tasted!) Now you just need that secret password. :o)
